Tweed was born on a private game reserve in the heart of Zululand, South Africa and was just 3 months old when his mother was shot by poachers. She wasn’t instantly killed and she managed to get away but unfortunately succumbed to her injury later on leaving behind a very scared and traumatised little rhino orphan who was rescued and brought through to our facility. It was a challenging time but his progress was quick and he was soon introduced to Leko.

The two bonded quickly and are now the best of friends. Tweed was extremely feisty and it took almost three months to gain his trust and for him to settle down. He is now the cutest and cuddliest of them all and we are so proud of his progress. He still has a long way to go but we are positive that he will return to the wild after his rehabilitation process is complete.
