Meet Some of Our Rhino Orphans

BHEJI

Bhejane or Bheji for short, takes her name from the native Zulu language and means ”Black Rhino”. Bheji was orphaned under tragic event during a routine dehorning on a private reserve. It was unknown to the dehorning team that her mother had a heart condition and that the drugs used during this anti-poaching effort would take Bheji’s mother from her. Since her arrival at Zululand Rhino Orphanage, Bheji has developed into a feisty, bouncy and curious little lady and is slowly adapting and bonding with her carers. You can support Bheji’s continued care but adopting her.

BILLIE

Billie’s journey has a dramatic start, arriving after being airlifted from the location in which he was found. His journey was intense but he adapted quickly, accepting a milk bottle within just 12 hours of his arrival. Billie’s name was inspired by the soothing effect of Bill Withers’ song ”Lean on Me”, which calmed him during his stressful time in the crate. The name fit perfectly, especially as Billie appeared to almost sing along to the music that comforted him. Despite being the most recent addition to the Zululand Rhino Orphanage, Billie has already formed strong bonds with each of the rhinos and his carers. You can adopt Billie to support his continued care.

BOZA

Bhoboza, affectionately known as Boza was tragically found beside the lifeless body of his mother. It is suspected that he remained by her side for several days, until he was rescued. Initially Boza was anxious and frustrated, climbing his cage in distress. However, he quickly found comfort with his carers, often collapsing in relaxation while enjoying their scratches. Boza’s name was inspired by his bubbly and bouncy nature. His playful spirit and boundless energy were undeniable, capturing the hearts of everyone around him. You can support Boza’s continued care by adopting him.

NGELO

Ngelo was found wondering alone down an unpopular tourist road, when approach she spooked and ran back to her mother’s 4-5 day old body, she had been poached, Ngelo was dehydrated and exhausted from her experience. She took to the bottle soon after her arrival but she was very weary of her carers. Despite her intense fear of humans, she was showing a glimpse of her true angelic nature, she was later named Ingelosi, Ngelo for short, the Zulu term for Angel. Support Ngelo’s continued care by adopting her.
