Wild Again For 20

GOAL:
The goal of this walk is to raise funds for the relocation of 20 white rhino and to raise awareness around the Zululand Rhino Orphanage and the fantastic work that is ongoing and is always in need of funding.

FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY:
David and Jonty Bozas, two Dads, driven to join the wild again for 19 challenge created by Josh and Amy Attenborough, have decided to carry the conservation fundraiser forward as the next sibling team walking for wildlife. Josh and Amy will hand the baton over to David and Jonty as they embark on the next chapter, Wild Again for 20

These two brothers are passionate South Africans, and are going to embark on a 20-night challenge of surviving in a Big 5 game reserve carrying everything that they need to survive. They will have water drop-offs but other than that they will be on their own. No tents, no rifles.

David Bozas: David cut his teeth working with a herd of rogue elephants in Zululand with Lawrence Anthony. He has a real passion for South Africa’s local communities and our wildlife heritage. Having previously been a Commissioned Officer in the British Army and completing several tours of duty he is no stranger to adventure. He is currently working with local communities in building game reserves and promoting wildlife economies.

Jonty Bozas: Has been working in the guiding world for more than a decade and has had the privilege of working at some of the best and most prestigious properties and lodges in South Africa. With a passion for wildlife, communities, and adventure this was a no brainer for Jonty.

These two brothers have volunteered to walk through big 5 territories of Somkhanda Game Reserve and Manyoni Private Game Reserve to raise funds for the rhino cause. They will be living wild, carrying all their supplies while walking and exploring this beautiful area all the time making sure to avoid some of the larger or more dangerous creatures that inhabit the land. They will be filming the entire 20 nights, and will be putting updates on social media platforms daily, the brothers are in final talks with companies in the US, and are finalizing a full-length documentary of the walk, and also the relocation of the rhino.

MEDIA:
ZCT will be posting daily on our Instagram and Facebook pages in the form of short videos. The Bozas brothers will also have a videographer with them filming the whole process with the intention of making a documentary.

Day 1 – Wild Again For 20, the Bozas brothers have been AWOL for the past 5 nights in Somkhanda Game Reserve, but have landed in Manyoni and are on the epic 20 night Wild Again For 20 challenge for 20 rhinos.

The Bozas brothers were joined by Roelie Kuter and his son. Roelie is the CEO of Wildlands trust and they manage Somkhanda community reserve. It was a tough days climbing but the views were breathtaking.

Day 3 on Somkhanda game reserve – Jonty and David have decided to set up camp and ditch the heavy bags – what will the night bring?

Day 4 on Somkhanda game reserve serves up some epic sightings. The wind is picking up, so let’s hope the brothers get a decent sleep in the gusty night.

Day 5 is the last day on Somkhanda, the brothers share their culinary tips that is keeping them nourished and full of energy. Thanks to @epapnutrition and OnTheGo Fusion snacks for the sustenance!

Day 8 – Patience is a virtue as Jonty and David stake out Big Dam on Sensiri to see what will come and drink.
As the day’s pass, missing their families back home is the overwhelming feeling.

The guys are on day 9 out of 20 and Jonty has a halfway treat up his sleeve!

Jonty and David Bozas have committed to spend 20 nights out in Big 5 wilderness to raise money for the relocation of 20 wild rhinos from Manyoni Private Game Reserve into Somkhanda Game Reserve . Two dads, surviving the wilds, missing their families loads all in the name of rhino conservation.

We still have 11 nights to go… keep an eye on our daily updates to see what adventures they get up to!

No matter how much epap the guys eat – their bags continue to keep the weight! However, a magical rhino encounter on foot makes it all worth it….

Please share these dads journey for rhino conservation far and wide. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Wind, grass and big 5 encounters are on the menu today…

The Green Tarp Air Bnb is still standing strong but the guys are really starting to miss their family!

The guys are hot on lion tracks…will they find her??

19th day in the bush and the sightings are booming, not only do the guys find lions in the river, but the also get an incredible opportunity to join Leno Sierra monitor the recently re-wilded pangolin Cory.

Cory was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and released onto Manyoni in a soft release programme. She has now been released into the wild on her own. The team monitor her every 3 days to weigh her and monitor her progress, this is a short interaction in order to guarantee that she is gaining sufficient weight and that the release is successful. Cory has been fitted with a GPS tag which they use to track her, she is weighed and then left to carry on with her day.

It is amazing how independent she has become.

The last full day of the challenge and the guys have some epic big cat encounters…

The last trek home, and what an incredible journey it has been!

Big thanks to African Spirit Game Lodge for hosting the Bozas family welcome back – an incredible lodge to reunite and share special family time.

The funds are still coming in for the #WildAgainFor20 challenge – if you would like to support the cause and help us raise the much needed funds for the Manyoni rhino management programme.
